Ultra High Pressure Water Jetting
Ultra High Pressure Water Jetting (UHPWJ) is a well known, tried, tested and true technology deployed for the cleaning and preparation of surfaces for receipt of surface tolerant coatings.
Technologically UHPWJ is as simple as technology comes. A water supply to the pump, equivalent to the pumps drawing a capacity of 3-6 GPM, a high pressure/low volume water pump, UHP water line to a task specific discharge gun.
Developed in Europe 30+ years ago, and deployed today throughout the world, UHPWJ has found its optimal position within industrial and marine market sectors as an environmentally friendly, cost effective, acceptable alternative to abrasive blasting when a profile is already in existence due to the original surface preparation procedure or corrosion. Coatings, and paints adhere best when they have something to grab and anchor on to.
Due to the high pressures demanded to achieve positive results for surface preparation, there are two essential things to always be aware of when deploying a UHPWJ crew. First, safety is initiated through effective training and constant monitoring. Second, 30k to 40k pressures are extremely wearing on equipment and demand daily, if not hourly, maintenance practices to maintain production schedules.
Certification
Certified Coating Specialists invested in sending 13 crew members to the training and certification by SSPC (The Society for Protective Coatings), in UHPWJ making CCS the only UHPWJ certified company in Canada. Candidates are certified through a brief written exam and a practical hands on skills assessment. The certification program is for waterjetters who meet specific experience requirements.
