CCS often elects to pre-treat steel with Ultra High Pressure Water Jetting as an environmentally intelligent alternative to abrasive blasting. The advantages of UHPWJ over traditional abrasive blasting can be:
- No dust is created.
- Water is easier to contain than dust when executing lead abatement work.
- Water is generally far less expensive to dispose of than contaminated blast media.
- Coating system life between the two surface pre-treatment technologies is close to equal today when both systems are professionally executed.
- Water can be faster than blasting lowering labour costs.
UHPWJ is generally the surface pre-treatment of choice outside of North America. For whatever reason, North America has been the last region on the planet to recognize and take advantage of this innovative, cost effective, environmentally safer method of surface pre-treatment. Today in the US UHPWJ is rapidly becoming the surface pretreatment of choice for those sincerely concerned about the environment.
